What PTA board and chair positions are available?

There are multiple positions on the Purefoy PTA board.  They consist of positions that are part of the executive board (must be voted into the position) and chair positions (appointed by the PTA President, subject to approval by the Executive Board).  These positions are open to any parents and do not require previous board or PTA experience.

How do PTA positions get filled?

PTA Executive Board:  A nominating committee is formed in January each year by PTA members and those representatives are voted onto that committee at the January general PTA meeting.  This committee presents the nominees to the membership at the March general PTA meeting and they are slated at that time (nominees will also be posed at the school and online prior to the March PTA meeting). Board elections are conducted at the April general PTA meeting. If interested in a PTA Executive Board position, please complete the interest form here, by Wednesday, February 21st, 2024.

 

PTA Chair Positions:  After the PTA Executive Board is elected, the PTA President for the upcoming school year will seek out individuals to fill chair positions until the end of the school year.  If interested in a PTA Chair Position, please complete the interest form here by Wednesday, February 21st, 2024.

 

What are the requirements to serve on the PTA board?

  • First and foremost, the desire to ensure the current level of excellence remains in the educational environment of our Purefoy students
  • Active membership in the Purefoy PTA each school year you hold a position
  • Plan, execute and support events that enrich the Purefoy Elementary community
  • Volunteer your time and talents during PTA scheduled events
  • Attend monthly scheduled board meetings and PTA general meetings throughout the school year
  • Submit content to monthly newsletter and social media posts to promote event or provide information
  • Help recruit and train your successor
  • Represent the Purefoy PTA in a positive light

Job Descriptions

Executive Board

 

President

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week

Busiest Time of Year: August-November

Ideal candidate:  Someone who has flexibility during school hours for meetings and events.  This position is best for someone with strong leadership qualities who can manage and oversee the job duties of multiple board members.  

  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with school faculty members
  • Coordinate the work of the officers and committees of the PTA
  • Preside at all meetings of the association
  • Appoint the chair of each standing committee and special committee, subject to the approval of the executive board, unless otherwise provided in these bylaws
  • Be authorized to sign on bank accounts (unless prohibited by terms of employment)
  • Be authorized to sign contracts approved by the executive board
  • Be listed as the principal officer and be authorized to sign tax documents (unless prohibited by terms of employment)
  • Appoint a members for special committees
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating and financial reconciliation committees. 
  • Public speaking at PTA general meetings and other events

President Elect

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week

Busiest Time of Year: August-November

Ideal candidate:  Someone who has flexibility during school hours for meetings and events.  This position is best for someone with strong leadership qualities who can manage and oversee the job duties of multiple board members.  

  • Work in a shadowing Capacity to the President, engaging and assisting throughout all major and minor events, when possible.
  • Coordinate and serve as a main contact to the room parent coordinator.
  • Preside at all meetings of the association.
  • Organize and serve as the main contact for the Holiday Shop.
  • Be authorized to sign on bank accounts (unless prohibited by terms of employment).
  • Serve as an ex-officio member on all committees except the nominating and financial reconciliation committees. 
  • No more than 30 days after the election meeting, call a meeting of the newly elected officers to:
    • appoint a parliamentarian and all standing committee chairs; subject to the approval of the newly-elected officers;
    • conduct any other business as shall become necessary;
    • after this, all meetings shall be of the entire executive board as defined by the Executive Board.
  • Automatically become president at the end of the term.

 

VP of Membership

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours a week first part of year | minimal time commitment after September         

Busiest Time of Year: August and September

Ideal candidate: Organized, able to handle large amounts of paperwork, and works well alone.  Position is very flexible as far as when the work is done.

  • Develop and implement the PTA's membership recruitment plan, with the goal of achieving the national standard of at least one member per student
  • Update all online and hard copy membership forms
  • Host enrollment at back to school night as the kick off of the membership drive
  • Create incentive programs to motivate families, grandparents, staff and other constituencies to join
  • Distribute membership cards and directories to each member
  • Maintain membership records and submitting rosters/dues to state monthly
  • Submit paperwork for any earned awards (if required)
  • Manage the Life Member award process that occurs in January/February each year
  • Preside in President’s absence (in given order)

VP of Programs

Time Commitment: 4-5 hours per week at beginning of the year | 3-4 hours a month after that (including attending all programs)

Busiest Time of Year: August (planning and scheduling programs for the school year)

Ideal candidate: Someone with flexibility to be present at programs during school hours.  Also, he/she needs to have time during working hours to coordinate with the companies being brought in for our programs.

  • In charge of organizing, executing and attending all PTA sponsored programs/speakers/assemblies for students, parents and families
  • Work with the PTA President to plan and schedule at least one program a month during the school year
  • Coordinate  an average of 2-3 parent programs coordinated with the counselor 
  • Negotiate/coordinate payment for the speakers while maintaining the programs budget throughout the year
  • Work with the Team Leads for each grade level to coordinate and plan the High Touch/High Tech science program visits throughout the year. 
  • Preside in President’s absence (in given order)

VP of Ways and Means

Time Commitment: 2 hours per week; much more during peak times

Busiest Time of Year: Beginning of school year and around major fundraising events 

Ideal candidate: Someone with flexibility during working hours to contact potential partners/sponsors.  Bonus if you enjoy working with community members to obtain funds through sponsorships!

  • Oversee all fundraising events for the PTA
  • Secure PTA partners (sponsors) for the school each year
  • Partner with the chairperson of individual events to ensure PTA guidelines are followed and assist to ensure success of event
  • Preside in President’s absence (in given order)

Treasurer

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week 

Busiest Time of Year: Beginning of the year when new to role | weekly check runs | around bookfair and party time as checks are requested

Ideal candidate:  Extremely organized, some financial acumen (but you do not have to be an accounting major), flexible for check signings weekly.

  • Generate, oversees and maintain the PTA budget
  • Pay bills and reimbursements as required
  • Prepare and present budget report for each PTA board and general meeting
  • Serve as the Chair of the Budget and Finance committees
  • Present a written and verbal financial report at executive board and association meetings and as requested by the 
  • Maintain books of account and records including bank statements, receipts, budgets, invoices, paid receipts and canceled checks
  • Make disbursements in accordance with the budget adopted by the association
  • Be authorized to sign on bank accounts
  • Be authorized to sign tax documents
  • Present books of accounting and records to the financial reconciliation committee
  • Prepare annual tax return

Secretary

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours monthly

Busiest Time of Year: Following each PTA meeting | First month of first year of holding position

Ideal candidate: Need to be present at all board and general meetings.  Detail oriented and organized is preferred to keep up with minutes and documents.

  • Record and maintain the minutes of all meetings
  • Collect and preserve documents relating to the history of the association
  • Confirm that all executive board members have signed the Local PTA Ethics/Conflict of Interest Policy
  • Maintain and confirm all board members have signed necessary documents and completed required courses
  • Maintain the required documents of the association

 

Chair Positions

 

Parliamentarian

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours monthly

Busiest Time of Year: During PTA meetings

Ideal candidate:  Some familiarity and operational knowledge of the Purefoy PTA.  Must be present at board and general meetings.

  • Be There. You need to be at all PTA general meetings and all the PTA board meetings
  • Ensure all present at meetings act within Bylaws, and within some approximation of parliamentary procedure
  • Assist with bylaw and standing rule changes

Arts in Education Chair

Time Commitment: 20-40 hours yearly

Busiest Time of Year: August/September and then around Reflections due date

Ideal candidate:  Great position for someone who can’t commit to a position that requires a monthly commitment.  Love for the arts is a bonus (not a requirement)!

    • Chair the PTA Reflections Program.

    • Plan and/or support cultural arts activities within the school.

Bookfair Chair

Time Commitment: 120 hours a year

Busiest Time of Year: Bookfair dates in Fall and Spring (less intense)

Ideal candidate:  Great position for someone who cannot commit to a position needing year round support but can commit to working school hours for 1-3 weeks around bookfairs.

  • Promote the formation of good home libraries by planning book fairs for

    students, parents, and school faculty.

Council Delegate

Time Commitment: Up 1-2 hours monthly

Busiest Time of Year: Around FISD Council meeting dates

Ideal candidate: Must be able to attend Frisco ISD Council of PTAs monthly meetings (currently held on Thursday mornings).

  • Act as a liaison between the Frisco ISD Council and the Purefoy PTA 
  • Attend monthly Council PTA meetings and report back to the Purfoy PTA 
  • Promote the programs and plans of the Purefoy PTA to the Frisco ISD Council  
  • Communicate the needs and wishes of Purefoy PTA 
  • Represent Purefoy PTA in all matters requiring debate and vote 

Directory Chair

Time Commitment: 10-20 hours total

Busiest Time of Year: August, September, October and again in January/February

Ideal candidate:  Good position for someone who can’t commit to monthly requirements during the school year.  Someone who can work within a deadline.  Almost all the work is done behind a computer with no main requirements up at school for the position.

    • Organize and provide an online student directory by October via Membership

      Toolkit.

    • Lead and solicit 5th Grade ads for the yearbook.

    • Work with the ways and means chair for sponsorships and advertisements.

EAGER Chair

Time Commitment: 3 hours per month, based on activities

Busiest Time of Year: Around events

Ideal candidate:  Good position for someone who can’t commit to monthly job duties and most of the time commitment is during non-school hours.  Ideal candidate is enthusiastic about supporting our special education students and teachers.  You do not have to have a personal connection to the special and gifted; we just ask that you treat all students with respect no matter the background! 

  • serves as a liaison between campus teachers and families to support,
  • educate, and help create an environment of inclusiveness in our school.
  • shares information regarding Frisco ISD Special Education events,
  • local events for special needs, diverse learners and gifted families as
  • well as parent training opportunities.
  • facilitates communication between parents and EAGER committee.
  • Ensures inclusion of special and gifted children in all PTA sponsored
  • events.
  • Acts as EAGER resource for other PTA executive board members.
  • advocates for special education and gifted resource teachers and for the diverse learner.
  • Coordinate and promote Diverse-ability Day student even

Environmental/Safety Chair

Time Commitment:  1-2 hours weekly

Busiest Time of Year:  Around Bike to School and Walk to School Days (October and May)

Ideal candidate:  Great role for someone who can keep up with multiple communications that help promote initiatives.  Most of the work can be done away from school (minus event days).

    • Promote environmental issues such as going green and minimal paper

      correspondence.

    • Inform, develop, implement, enhance, and assist administration regarding

      safety guidelines and safety policies pertaining to the school’s structure, faculty, students, and parents.

Fall Family Engagement Chair

Time Commitment:  A few hours a month leading up to the event

Busiest Time of Year:  In the Fall, leading up to the event

Ideal candidate:  Someone who is a planner, can manage large events and can oversee a committee to ensure the event's success.

    • Coordinate and promote and fall family event.

    • Work with 3rd vice president ways and means to secure partners.

Fun Run Chair

Time Commitment: 10-20 hours around Fun Run

Busiest Time of Year: Around Fun Run    

Ideal candidate:  Good position for someone who can’t commit to a monthly requirement.  Also, someone who loves to coordinate large events and enjoys promoting and fundraising!

    • Coordinate and promote the event.

    • Work with the 3rd vice president/ways and means to secure partners.

Healthy Lifestyles Chair

Time Commitment: 4-5 hours monthly

Busiest Time of Year:  First of year when learning the role

Ideal candidate:  Position requires some school hours but mostly can be managed around your own schedule.  You don't have to workout 40+ hours a week and eat clean (though we applaud you if you do)!

    • Build relationships with Purefoy Elementary School PE department,

      administration and district to offer programs to the school to address areas of

      need, or connect with community health providers who do.

    • Know Frisco ISD’s Wellness Policy (available online).

    • Participate in the district SHAC (Student Health Advisory Committee)

      meetings.

    • Sit on Campus Improvement Committees when invited.

Hospitality Chair

Time Commitment:  10-15 hours monthly (more around larger events)

Busiest Time of Year: On-going

Ideal candidate:  Great position for someone who loves hosting and planning parties/events.  Even better if you enjoy giving back and making others smile!  Position does require work up at the school on a monthly basis.

    • Organize and serve as a resource for Hospitality Event Coordinators, including,

      but not limited to Staff / Teacher Recognition (such as Luncheons, Birthday,

      Holiday, etc.), and Teacher Appreciation Week.

    • Manage Hospitality budget for all Event Coordinators.

    • Work hand in hand with volunteers, as well as the volunteer coordinator and

      the school to enrich school programs through volunteering.

    • Coordinate all condolences and memorials as approved by the executive

      board.

    • Coordinate with 3rd vice president /ways and means to secure partners for

      events.

    • Consistent with Texas PTA, collaborate with Treasurer to ensure that

      hospitality expenditures are no more than 10% of total Purefoy PTA expenditures.

Inclusivity/Multi-cultural Chair

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours in December and January

Busiest Time of Year: Surrounding Multicultural Night

Ideal candidate:   Good position for someone who cannot commit to a monthly job position.  Most of the work can be performed in the evenings, if needed.

    • Act as chair for the annual Multi-Cultural Night.

    • Plan and/or support cultural arts activities within the school.

Publicity Chair

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours a week

Busiest Time of Year: Steady effort throughout the year

Ideal candidate:  Great job for someone who can’t commit time during school hours as majority of the job can be performed at home behind the computer/phone.  Wittiness is a plus to drive likes and views on social media post!

    • Compile, edit, and distribute a monthly PTA newsletter via e-mail and website

      with the approval of the president and principal.

    • Oversee and manage the PTA social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram,

      etc.).

    • Inform PTA members of PTA functions and events via the PTA social media

      accounts/email as requested by other executive board members and approved

      by the president.

    • Send notices of meetings and items of interest to the news media and assist

      committees in promoting all PTA activities.

    • Create content as required to promote PTA activities, including items such a

      scrapbook or other items as requested by the executive board.

Room Parent Coordinator

Time Commitment:  1-2 hours weekly except around party time/service projects which requires 3-4 hours weekly

Busiest Time of Year: Around class parties and service project

Ideal candidate:  This position requires some time during school hours, in particular around party planning meetings.  Ideal candidate is organized and can balance a few moving parts at once.

    • Organize and serve as a resource for all Room Parents.

    • Work hand in hand with volunteers, as well as the volunteer coordinator and

      the school to enrich school programs through volunteering.

Special Fundraising Chair

Time Commitment:  A few hours a month around event

Busiest Time of Year:  Around event that fundraising will occur

Ideal candidate:  Someone who is outgoing, organized and isn't afraid to reach out to businesses.  Most work is completed at home.

  • Coordinate and promote an event such as Silent Auction, Parent Giving Campaign, or other fundraiser, in coordination with Fall Family Event, Spring Family Event, or Watch D.O.G.S. Event.
  • Work with ways and means VP and fundraising teams to secure partners.

Spirit Wear Chair

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours monthly

Busiest Time of Year: Varies

Ideal candidate: This position is ideal for someone who cannot commit large amounts of time during school hours.  Creativity a plus but not a must!  Enjoys promoting school spirit!

    • Manage and maintain the Purefoy Elementary Sprit Store.

    • Be responsible for overseeing the production and sale of any school spirit

      related merchandise approved by the board and principal including, but not limited to, t-shirts and yard signs.

Spring Family Engagement Chair

Time Commitment:  A few hours monthly, in the Spring, leading up tot he event

Busiest Time of Year: In the Spring, leading up to the event

Ideal candidate:  Someone who is a planner, can manage large events and can oversee a committee to ensure the event's success.

    • Coordinate and promote a spring family event.

    • Work with the 3rd vice president/ways and means to secure partners.

Store Programs Chair

Time Commitment:  Varies monthly

Busiest Times of Year: August/September while planning the events for the year, and then monthly to follow up with businesses to confirm scheduled events. 

Ideal candidate:  Great position for someone who loves interacting with community members and obtaining partners to raise funds for Purefoy.  

  • Arrange and manage any executive board and membership approved and /or product-related programs, such as Spirit Nights, Kroger Community Rewards Program, Box Tops, or the like, for the purpose of generating revenue and building partnerships.

Technology Chair

Time Commitment:  1-2 hours a month

Busiest Time of Year:  August

Ideal Candidate:  You don't have to be a tech wiz for this job!  It only requires someone who is a self-learner and has some knowledge of technology.  Also a plus, it can be done from the comfort of your home.

    • Oversee and manage the PTA website to include but not limited to:

      a. Keep website up to date with events and content

Volunteer Coordinator

Time Commitment:  2-4 hours weekly

Busiest Times of Year: All year

Ideal candidate:  Great position for someone that can spend time up at the school each week, but not required.  Ideal candidate loves coordination, making a huge impact at Purefoy, and can manage multiple projects at once.

    • Coordinate volunteers for PTA functions and assist with activities within the

      school as needed.

    • Work hand and hand with volunteers and the school to enrich school programs

      through volunteering.

    • Be responsible for maintaining the workroom with supplies, etc.

WatchDOG Coordinator

Time Commitment:  2+ hours weekly at first part of the school year and then slows down

Busiest Time of Year: September and October (95% of position is spent the first few months of the year)

Ideal candidate:  This person enjoys engaging and promoting male involvement in our student's education.  Some public speaking is involved.  

  • Recruit men to volunteer on campus for the Watch D.O.G.S. Program.
  • Coordinate and promote a family event, such as a golf tournament, or other activities.
  • Coordinate with 3rd vice president /ways and means to secure partners for events.
  • Coordinate Watch D.O.G.S. schedule with the webmaster and Purefoy Elementary School staff.
